THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
I tossed my phone on the bed and ran downstairs to wait. Eliott—
my brother—was on the couch, locked into some anime movie. I
grabbed a squishy toy from the old armchair and tossed it at him.
“Man, don’t you love anime so much? Might as well marry it!”
He blinked at me, confused. “What?”
“Whatever,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Wait—where’s Mom?”
“Uh... probably in the backyard with Dad,” he mumbled, eyes still
glued to the screen.
I sat on the last stair, drumming my fingers against the railing. Ten
minutes later, the doorbell finally rang. I opened it with a grin.
“Hi! Welcome. And ignore the anime lover over there,” I said,
pointing at Eliott.
“I am not an anime lover! And it’s otaku!” he yelled from the
couch.
“Shut up!” I crossed my arms.
“So,” I said, turning back to my friends, “room or dinner table?”
“Room,” Elisha answered, already kicking off her shoes.
I grabbed their sneakers and tucked them neatly onto the shelf.
Grade 8 planning was officially in session.
