THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL

I pinched Madelyn’s elbow and frowned for a second.
“Okay, let’s start,” I said, clearing my throat and looking over

          Elisha’s checklist.

We started thinking of ideas, but it was really hard because, c’mon—
we’re finally seniors. We’re going to be the big girls next week. Very

soon, we’ll be going to parties alone, at night! Crazy, right? So we had
to think of amazing ideas—like getting money or getting makeup.

After we made our list (which took us half an hour), we finally had
a fabulous checklist for Grade 8. This was the list:

                    1. Get detention

                    2. Do something we know we’ll hate
                    3. Help humanity

                    4. Make a guy friend (not a boyfriend)

                    5. Highlight our hair
“Wow, I think this list might help us survive Grade 8,” Madelyn

said, looking boldly at the list.
“Heck yeah, it’s gonna! Then why in the world would we even sign

          up for this?” Elisha said.
“I mean, it must help us, because if it doesn’t, we’ll be doomed,” I

          said, looking worried.

“And also be embarrassed,” Madelyn added.
“Oh, c’mon, guys! We took about an hour to think and think about

what would help us for Grade 8, and this is your reaction?” Elisha said,
twisting her head toward us as her round glasses twitched.
