hen it was time to go to the dance, I was a little bit late
because I forgot to do my hair. It was so dry that I had
to apply some moisturizer and add oil. My mom told me
I didn’t have much time, so I did a tucked-in chignon bun.
When I reached the school building, I met my best friends, and we
all headed to the gym. While we were walking there, I looked at Tara
and Erika and asked, “So, who’re y’all’s dates?”
Erika looked stunned and confused, but Tara uttered, “James.”
“Huh?” I said, confused.
“The guy in our history class! He normally sits at the back, and
he’s so cute and tall—you know I like tall guys. Oh, and he said he’s
been having feelings for me for years!”
Erika and I looked at each other, stunned.
“So? What’d you do then?” Erika asked.
“So I gave him a chance—duh!” Tara said.
I was surprised. I didn’t know Tara had a date. On a guy I barely
even noticed in our history class?
Then I turned to Erika and asked, “And what about you?”
“Uh… I’m not into that date thing. I just decided to dance with my
other friends who don’t have dates—like me,” Erika said.
“Oh, well, either we all have dates or not, we’re still gonna have
fun, right?” I said, opening the door to the gym.
