CHAPTER 11
A
fter ten minutes, Caleb came to sit beside me, and I was just
about ready to go back to the gym. But before I could even
try to get up, he held my hand and said,
“Please, stay.”
As much as I didn’t want to look at his annoying face or talk to
him, I still turned and asked, “Why did you do that?”
He sighed and said, “I—I actually don’t know. I guess I got tired
of thinking you wouldn’t come. But… when you were late, I was so
bored I danced with… my ex.”
“She—she’s your ex?”
“Yeah.”
I never would have guessed that Caleb—the boy everyone in
school seemed to dislike—actually had a girlfriend. Honestly, who
would even want to be with him?
Still, I told him, “You do realize you broke my heart, right? My
mom surprised me with this fifty–dollar dress, which I know she’s been
saving for something important. Honestly, I didn’t even want to come
tonight. I’m painfully introverted, but I didn’t want to let you down.”
He sighed. “I know. I’m sorry. Normally, I wouldn’t apologize for
betraying you—I’d laugh it off with my friends, say it was just a
prank.”
I interrupted, “Like that slime prank?”
