THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL

“Absolutely,” I replied, rising to my feet.
We returned to the gym, moving together to the slow, smooth

music. As we danced, I suddenly realized we were right in the center

of the room, like we were under a spotlight—and I loved every second
          of being there with him.

The DJ switched the track to a high–energy hip–hop beat, and the
crowd erupted, dancing wildly. Caleb and I fell into the rhythm of a

favorite dance we’d invented back in fifth grade, laughing and moving
as if no one else was around. Every moment was pure joy—a memory

I knew I’d carry with me forever.
