SICK DAHLIA

“Why? Can’t I stay at home or something?”
“Dahlia, your enzymes are already not good enough, so touching

a dangerous flower makes it worse. It could cause irritation, nausea, or

fainting. The best thing we can do is let you stay here for a while till
          you’re good enough.”

“Doctor, please, I can’t stay here. My parents will kill me if they
          find out.”

“Well, we already called your parents, and they should be here by
          now.” He checked his watch.

“What? No! They’re gonna make me be homeschooled again, and

then I can’t meet my friends!”
I rose from the bed, but as I said that, I thought about it and realized

I didn’t have any friends. My real friends wouldn’t be back in the
woods relaxing while they knew I was in danger. They knew all about

me being homeschooled and my parents worrying too much about me.
At some point, I thought they cared. But I guess I’ll never have

good friends. Maybe I never did anyway.
