because Mary had chosen to do this, it would not be taken from her.
Why? Because it is only in His presence that we become rooted,
grounded, and established in Him.
After this season—and moving onto verse 5—we now see the
Shulamite arising out of her desert, or coming up from the wilderness,
depending on which version you are reading, and she is leaning totally
on her Beloved.
As I asked the Lord to reveal what this meant for the season we are in,
I arrived at the following answer: The desert or wilderness, in this
instance, indicates the place of fleshly activity—in the sense of self-
effort, striving, and self-promotion. However, we are being invited to a
new level in the Spirit, where we rest in the finished work of the Cross
and allow God to be God.
The Lord wants His Church back in His hands—whereby He Himself,
by the power of His Holy Spirit, must be permitted to initiate, facilitate,
and activate what we do and what goes on there. The flesh profits
nothing. Works of the flesh will be burned up as hay, wood, or stubble,
and only those things done for Christ alone will pass through the fire
(see 1 Corinthians 3:12–13). That is what the leaning of the Shulamite
on her Beloved is showing us. We have to lean on Him for everything,
because He alone is our all in all—our life-source and power provider.
A further observation I made as I prayerfully pondered this verse is that
she is coming up from the wilderness or arising out of her desert. This
