and wait in silence, with no agenda but simply the desire to connect
with Him.
On most occasions, after sitting for several minutes in stillness, I begin
to sense His presence in a tangible way—but this isn’t always the case.
One time, I remember sitting silently for about an hour in the garden
and sensing absolutely nothing at all. I spoke with Him about it and told
Him that I felt I had accomplished nothing and that it was a waste. But
He said that the fact I had given Him that time to be with Him was a
precious thing.
The Lord desires that we go to Him for no other reason than to show
our love. No petitions or expectations need to be voiced, because He
already knows everything. This is a place of complete faith and trust in
His promise to us—that He is our All-Sufficient One and has every
aspect of our lives covered.
The flesh hates this type of prayer. And if I am honest, I do not find it
easy, because to the natural man, it seems like nothing is happening.
However, I can assure you—it is!
As the flesh, which has already been crucified, is treated as such—i.e.,
dead—and the focus constantly returns to Christ, then the Holy Spirit
can come to the fore and take over from fleshly, useless activity.
Let me explain…
