Topic 9: Practical operation of aerial:
Part 2
Training aim
To train students in how to :
• operate the aerial ladder using control station controls to reach
objectives specified by the trainer
• safely work on and from the aerial using the restraint equipment
• operate the monitor controls and monitor remote controls (where
fitted)
• operate the dedicated aerial communication systems.

Practical operation of aerial
Demonstration (no water supply required)
• Demonstrate to the students the aerial movements required to
position the aerial in a particular location, for example, to provide
fire attack or for access to upper floors or roof.
• Demonstrate the operation of the monitor from both the control
station and from the aerial platform (where fitted).
• Demonstrate the operation of the ladder communication system.
Student practice
• Students to operate the aerial and monitor controls from the
ground, including operating controls with the aerial close to
buildings and windows.
• Students to manipulate the Aerial controls to follow a parallel line
down the face of the building/tower.
