slow-paced simple life of rural Maine. He was a scotch drinker
who liked to chase it with an Irish lager with a head on it. Not
a true beer drinker, but not a stuck-up snob either.
“Ethan!” Trash said with a huge smile, “I have an unbelievable
opportunity for you, and for you, too, Kara.” He put his hand
on her shoulder and spoke in his best circus-carney voice.
“Here is the bet. My nerdy friend Tommy here will give you a
big wet kiss. If you say it is without any question, no doubt in
your mind, the best kiss you have ever received in your entire
life, then you will agree to accompany him for three days and
three nights sharing a room at the Greenville Inn up to
Moosehead lake. If you say it is not the best kiss you have ever
had, or even if you are not sure, then each one of us three will
give you one-thousand dollars, for a total of three-thousand-
dollars.”
He turns to Ethan.
“If she agrees it is the best kiss she has ever had, you do three
things for us. You give her the next three days off with pay,
you call the Greenville Inn and book and pay for their room
using your credit card, immediately starting tonight, and let me
drive your car for one week. If, however, she is not sure or
says it is not the best she has ever had, I give you the title to
my antique Dodge Dart and Steve and Danny each give you
$500.”
