At this moment, Tommy could feel the importance of the
resignation and tears welled in his eyes. He will soon be
overcome with shock and horror when he discovers 'Trash'
Trailer to be responsible for the disappearance of the
Washington Monument in an act of benevolent terrorism. But
now, it was a safe and soothing icon to relax his soul. After a
few moments he sighed deeply and got back in his car once
again headed north. Several hours went by while Tommy was
absorbed in that image of the beautiful, exquisite Washington
Monument and the watershed moment of George's selfless
resignation. He hummed Yankee Doodle to himself
unconsciously. It wasn't until he almost got clipped by a truck
on the New Jersey Turnpike that the present came crashing
back into focus. Tommy stopped at the nearest rest stop,
pulled out his cell phone and made a call.
“Hello” came a friendly unassuming voice.
“Hello, Steve. This is Tommy.” He began nervously.
“Hey! Tommy! What are you up to?”
“Um. I think I am in trouble and I don’t know what to do. I am
driving back to Maine and I need a place to stay for the night.
Is it okay if I come stay with you?”
“Sure.” Steve said rather dryly. “Whatever it is I’ll be happy to
help. What kind of trouble?"
