POLICY 202
EMPLOYMENT
BACKGROUND AND REFERENCE CHECKS
To ensure that individuals who join Mission are well qualified and to ensure that Mission maintains
a safe and productive work environment, it is Mission’s policy to conduct pre-employment
background checks on all applicants who accept an offer of employment. Background checks may
include verification of any information on the applicant’s resume and/or application form. In
addition, for distribution positions, specific criminal background checks, including federal,
national, state, local and/or fingerprinting, may be required.
All offers of employment are conditioned on receipt of a background check report that is
acceptable to Mission. All background checks are conducted in conformity with the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (“FCRA”), the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), and state and federal
privacy and antidiscrimination laws. If information obtained in a background check would lead
Mission to deny employment, a copy of the report will be provided to the applicant, and the
applicant will have the opportunity to dispute the report’s accuracy. Background checks may
include a criminal record check, although a criminal conviction does not automatically bar an
applicant from employment. Additional background checks, such as driving record, may be made
on applicants for particular job categories if appropriate and job related.
All employees are required to self-disclose to the head of the People Operations or his/her designee
any post-employment criminal convictions within three (3) business days of the conviction.
Mission also reserves the right to conduct background checks on current employees to determine
eligibility for promotion, reassignment, job requirement or for cause, in the same manner as
described above.
Note: For employees who handle prescription drugs, such as in distribution, background checks
will be conducted on at least five (5) year intervals or as required to meet regulatory requirements.
INTERNAL TRANSFERS/PROMOTIONS
Mission believes in the growth and development of all its employees and prefers to promote
employees from within Mission. Current employees with necessary qualifications and skills may
be given first consideration to fill open vacancies, unless outside recruitment is considered to be
in Mission’s best interest. Mission may, at its discretion, initiate or approve internal employee job
