From the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services



               1.  Planning for 2020 Summer School Programs has begun.  Programs will include virtual credit
                    recovery, STAR Academy, Freshmen RAMP UP, Extended School Year (ESY) for Special
                    Education students, driver’s education, and athletic summer camps.  Summer school will run
                    for six weeks beginning June 1, 2020, and will be held at Rich East campus.

               2.  The graduation committee met this month and finalized the order for the class of 2020
                    graduation ceremonies on May 17, 2020:

                    9:00 am- Rich South    1:00 pm- Rich Central        5:00 pm- Rich East



               3.  To implement flexible modular scheduling for the 2020-2021 school year  During the district
                    Late Start Wednesday on February 26 and Department Late Start Wednesday on March 4,
                    course teams met to being the work of allocating instructional minutes as prep work before
                    master schedules can be built.

               4.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Rich Township High School Star Academy on
                    Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Student ambassadors provided guided tours to school board
                    members, staff, and other community stakeholders.


               Professional Development

               This month’s professional learning for teachers included the second workshop in the So You Want

               to Be Distinguished PD series.


               1.  This month’s professional learning for administrators included No Ego by Cy Wakerman.  It
                    was discussed at the monthly all administrators meeting and focused on administrators leading
                    change.
               2.  In partnership with the Cook County Southland Juvenile Justice Council, the district hosted
                    the first Parent University on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Prairie State College. 48
                    parents, rsvp’d but due to the inclement weather, there was low attendance. Approximately 10
                    to 12 parents attended. The workshops covered the following topics: Senate Bill 100,
                    Affording College, Financial Literacy, Restorative Justice, Accessing Community Resources,
                    and Credit Repair.
