P. 44
o He can do this because He is God himself
o Both Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit intercede for us
▪ Jesus intercedes at the throne of God. We could say, He earned
the right to come to God for us.
▪ The Holy Spirit intercedes in our hearts and ensures that our
prayers are acceptable to God.
▪ Thus, we pray through Christ and in the Holy Spirit.
Read Ephesians 6:18 and determine what it means when we are
called to pray IN THE SPIRIT?
Application
a. What may we know when we do not even have words to
pray with?
b. How accessible is God then?
7.3 THE CONTENT OF OUR PRAYERS
Praying with a focus on other people and their needs (intercession)
Read the following passages and answer the questions:
o Romans 15:30,32;
o Ephesians 6:18,19
o Colossians 4:2,3
▪ Why do you think the intercession of fellow believers were
important to the apostles?
▪ Were they self-centered or was there another reason they
asked the churches to pray for them?
Read the following passages and answer the questions:
o Colossians 1:3,9,12
o 2 Corinthians 13:7
▪ Why did the apostles also pray for the churches? (Think
about distances and the bond of faith they had).
