Abstract This thesis presented the project in optimizing tunnel-type piezoelectric energy
harvester for electric vehicles. There is no design of the tunnel for piezoelectric harvester for
an electric vehicle reported in the literature. This thesis aims to design the tunnel-type
piezoelectric generator and evaluate the fluid behavior around the generator using
computational fluid dynamics (CFD). After that purpose, an optimal tunnel type power
generator geometry. Besides that, the purpose of this thesis is to optimize the tunnel-type power
generator geometry. The process starts with the analysis of the onboard power generator to
identify the problem and room for improvement to design the tunnel. The pre-processing
includes designing the tunnel geometry using Solidworks. The post-processing method was
performed using Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation test that runs using
Solidworks. Data obtained from the simulation is then calculated using specific engineering
formulas. For future work, to improve the validity of the results obtained, the design can also
be manufactured.
