EXPERIENCE ●
Joe joined the GDS Associates team as an intern in April 2011, assisting in residential blueprint analysis and energy
modeling software updating. He quickly advanced to the position of Residential Energy Efficiency Specialist and
has embraced the role of assisting in the training of GDS’s residential interns. Joe now holds the position of
Senior Engineering Assistant and continues to work within the Northeast Region Office’s Energy Efficiency and
Renewable Energy Department. Residential program support services include: evaluation of residential new
construction programs, home energy ratings (HERS), home energy use modeling, on-site audits and on-site
diagnostic inspections and surveys for residential energy efficiency programs.

Throughout his life Joe has spent many years working amongst trade professionals in various construction fields
such as: residential home building, modular home installation and commercial property maintenance. This
experience has provided him with a broad knowledge of the many facets of construction and development. In
addition, his studies in the Energy Services and Technology Program have provided an in depth understanding of
residential and commercial building components and how they work as a system. Coursework has
included: renewable energy sources, energy conservation methods, basic electricity, heating & cooling
systems, indoor air quality, lighting, water conservation and electric motors.
Specific Project Experience Includes:

ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

- Conducting field service work for residential new construction energy efficiency programs (ENERGY STAR
Homes) in New Hampshire and Massachusetts;
- Providing consultation to residential developers, builders and architects to ensure that efficient, safe and
durable homes are constructed and comply with the applicable energy efficiency programs;
Performing on-site construction inspections and diagnostic testing for air infiltration and duct leakage in new

and existing homes;
- Utilized infrared thermography to diagnose problems and recommend improvements to building shell;
- Evaluated existing homes for compliance with the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) Geothermal Heat
Pump Conversion Program by identifying and verifying installed energy conservation measures;
- Verifying compliance with International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) in single-family and multi-family
dwellings;
- On-site inspections for residential energy efficiency programs and for home owners seeking increased energy
performance from their existing and new homes;
- Performing third party home energy ratings (HERS) for utility new construction programs;
