CFS Examination Wing is responsible for
the assurance and standardisation of all
RAF aircrew instruction and of pure flying
across Defence. Within the Military Regula-
tory Publications, CFS Examiners are
unique as they are permitted to fly in any air system (not as
captain) for the purposes of awarding instructional qualifica-
tions; essential when introducing new air systems into service.
CFS Exam Wg comprises examiners who
are tasked within 22 Gp to conduct stand-
ardisation, re-categorisation and instrument
rating tests on all fast jet, turboprop, light
training, multi-engine, rotary and gliding air-
craft. The Elementary and Multi-engine Examiners are based
at RAF Cranwell, whereas the Fast Jet Examiners are based at
RAF Valley, the Rotary Examiners are at RAF Shawbury and
the Gliding Examiner is at RAF Syerston.
The CFS Examiners have a combined total
in excess of 95,000 flying hours of which
36,000 are instructional. They have also
flown over 100 types and variants of air
systems. Therefore a network of CFS
Agents exists and is managed by CFS Exam Wg. CFS Agents
are appointed by Comdt CFS after completing an induction pro-
cess. They are invariably A category aircrew instructors on
their type(s) and complete standardisations and re-
categorisations on behalf of Comdt CFS.
