5y MC German Shepherd cross with a 6‐month history of decreased activity and suspected back pain. An MR examination of the
caudal lumbar and lumbosacral regions was acquired. There is a mildly increased volume of synovial fluid in the right coxofemoral
joint (a,b: arrows), which is more pronounced than that of the left (c: arrows). No other abnormalities were identified on the MR
examination. Cytologic analysis of synovial fluid aspirated from multiple joints, including the right coxofemoral joint, yielded mild
to moderate suppurative inflammation in all joints. Clinical signs and joint cytology improved with steroid and azathioprine
administration.
