3y FS German Shepherd Dog with sudden onset of weakness, ataxia, and vestibular signs. There are focal T1 hypointense and T2 and
FLAIR hyperintense lesions seen in the brainstem (a: arrow) and left hippocampus (b,d–f: arrow). Unusual sulcal hyperintensity is also
seen on the transverse FLAIR image (f: arrowheads). Marked meningeal enhancement is seen following contrast administration (c,g–i).
Pachymeninges and leptomeninges are both affected, as evidenced by enhancement and thickening of the dura mater (c,g–i: arrowheads)
as well as enhancement of the pia mater lining the sulci (c,g–i: arrows). Multiple focal parenchymal lesions also contrast enhanced (not
shown). Postmortem examination confirmed granulomatous meningoencephalitis from widely disseminated systemic aspergillosis
(Aspergillus terreus).
