Will the Real Christians Stand Up
“And it was,” her bunkie said. “By the way, my name is
Steven.”
“Steven, nice to meet you,’’ Samaria said as she reached
her hand out to shake his. The Sergeant also wanted me to
know that there are some people here that weren’t a big fan
of the bold stand that we took. Captain Smith, to be exact.”
“If God is for us, which he is, who can be against us,
right?” Steven asked, looking for an affirmation. “That’s right,
Samaria said. I take it you’re a born-again Christian.” “I’ve
been born again now for a year and 7 months. I gave my life
to Christ at my dad’s funeral.”
“I’m so sorry to hear that,” Samaria said, with a heart
filled with compassion which showed on her face.
“That’s okay. My dad was a pastor, and he knew that
his time was drawing near. The week before he died, he
preached a sermon entitled, Finished my Course; My Time of
Departure is at Hand. He expressed to us how sad he was to
leave us behind, but how happy and excited he was to spend
eternity with Jesus. I didn’t know whether to cry or be happy.”
They both laughed.
“He named a list of all the things that he would ask and
say to Jesus. The things he told me broke me. He said he would
say to Jesus, “Please, Jesus, help my wife and my son get to
where I’m going. My mother was and still is a born-again be-
liever, but I wasn’t at the time. That next week at his funeral,
I accepted Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior. By
far, that was the best decision I could have ever made in my
life.”
“You can say that again,” Samaria said.
“Well, I’m going to get some rest. I’ll see you early in the
morning,” Steven said.
“Sleep tight,” Samaria said.
