These ferryboats were still operated by the national railway
system to carry passengers across the river to Hull. A limited
number of cars could be carried too, but first they had to mount
the railway platform at New Holland station, run along the
platform itself and down a very steep raised wooden ramp onto
the ferryboat rear deck. I believe ice and snow in the winter did
prevent this somewhat dangerous but very exciting experience.

Mark 1 Ford Zephyr 6. Really superb and very popular with all
the family.)
I can imagine the young ‘know-it-all’, ‘health and safety’
pundits on the 21st century finding this stimulating trip beyond
their comprehension.
It was not cheap but still far quicker and less tedious than
the long round trip by road.
The new Humber Bridge brought this service to an end but I
