            'head turning' Renault Floride.)
Before we leave cars completely I must mention that when
Grandfather Jack Munford died in 1960 it did mean my mother
was fairly well off for a time and through father’s Renault agent
friend Pete Taylor, mother bought her first Renault Dauphine.
Grandfather also had an NSU Quickly “moped” which
fortunately came my way when he died. That little machine
transformed my life, allowing me unbefore experienced
“freedom”. It even took me back to Harrogate for one short
            holiday!
Money was always in short supply while we lived at 129
London Road despite grandmother’s best efforts with the
lodgers. In the late 1950’s mother went out to work too and
spent several years in the offices of Fogarty and Co., the local
feather processors and pillow and bedding manufacturers.
My parents had a low opinion of the local primary schools, so
sister Jane attended a small private school in the town before
moving on to the Girls High School.
