CHAPTER 7
THE SINGLE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE
The 1st Boston Sea Scouts were to be the single greatest
influence on my whole life. Of course I had not the slightest idea
when I joined early in the year 1956, that on the second Friday in
November 1961 I was to be persuaded to make my first date
with a girl.
The girl I would eventually marry and in 1955 she had just
joined the Sea Scouts as a Cub Instructor.
Apart from being responsible for finding my future wife,
being in the Scouts in the 1950’s was a world of excitement and
adventure. Training for life that would teach me far more about
self sufficiency and motivation, far better for me than any school
book learning. I must admit that I loved the Sea Scouts and from
the very first day began to neglect my school work.
I found Scouts far more practical and fascinating and I do not
regret one minute.
