Page 26 - GOLIATH THE TALLEST HORSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD
P. 26
Goliath was with us for 10 years eventually, the last five
were the most difficult as his falling over became more
frequent and because of severe arthritis in his joints they
were not articulating, once down on the ground he was
stuck.
We could see how he had sustained the severe injuries
in Sussex, as his determined spirit meant he was
constantly trying to get up.
Initially, if we could catch him quickly, then with the aid of
a head-collar and two strong folks, we could haul him
back onto his feet.
Once he was laying flat on the ground though it was too
late and something more was needed.
One afternoon in these early years, he began to tumble
after getting his head stuck in a hay feeder. I was with
him but needed some help as he gradually slipped down
onto his bottom.
He was sat straight up and could be lifted easily, with
help, but it needed to be quickly.
I saw some visitors at our house gate and shouted for
some help, they just gawped, so I shook them up with
some stronger words.
It worked, I got my help and put Goliath back on his feet
but we never saw those folks again!
