                    Containers on the highway

            •  Before placing a container on the highway, check that the permit has the correct address
                and the dates are correct.

            •  Cones and lights must be placed in the correct position around the container as shown
                in the photo below.

            •  The container must be clearly marked with the owner’s name, address and telephone

                number clearly painted with reflective clean marker boards at each end of the skip.
            •  No  containers  are  to  be  placed  on  the  public  highway  without  local  authority

                permission or remain on the highway after the permission has expired.


                      It is a skip driver’s responsibility to ensure that they have at least six working skip

                      lights when placing skips on the highway they are to be placed on each corner of
                      the skip and between each cone on the highway to draw attention to the skip in

                      hours of darkness to oncoming traffic.
                      Do not carry lights on the bed of your skip lorry because they will get damaged.

                      A minimum of 3 road cones should also be used around the skip to warn oncoming

                      traffic.
