site and driving to another.
• You may be tracked by CCTV during various intervals.
• Familiarise yourself with your location, fire safety procedures and escape routes in the event
of an emergency.
• Where possible ensure that you have keys to all entrances and exits and keep them locked
at all times.
• Do not allow unexpected visitors in unless they carry sufficient identification.
• Familiarise yourself with the alarm system at your location.
• Ensure that you leave your contact details with your manager before starting work.
• Make sure that people at home, away from the company are aware of your movements and
that you are lone working. If this is not possible please notify your manager.
• In the event that you feel unwell seek help immediately and if necessary call 999.
• Under no circumstances should you ever undertake the following activities: working at
height, heavy lifting, under raised vehicles/body without supports, hot works, exposed
moving machinery and working on live electricity supplies.
Control Measures
• Employees or Contractors lone working on company premises must call or text in every hour
and at the beginning and end of each lone working shift.
• Should the lone worker forget or fail to phone, your manager will initially telephone you. If
there is no response your manager will then either dispatch a representative to site to carry
out a physical check, or if a representative is not available ring a list of numbers that they
hold on standby, (at least 3) until they speak to someone who can go to the site and check
that the lone worker is safe.
• To ensure any risks to lone workers are kept to a minimum, the risk assessment must be
followed. To ensure that lone workers are monitored we will monitor the site via CCTV where
possible or speak to you verbally at regular intervals throughout the day.
• Lone workers will also have access to a first aid kit that they must ensure remains adequately
stocked.
• All Lone workers will be provided with access to either an office or mobile phone by the
Company which they must ensure they keep charged and switched on whilst working.
• In the event of an emergency the main points of contact will be as follows:
John Gosling 07764 305455
Jamie Higgins 07736 691514
Neil Glazebrook 07739 479156
Jason Strudwick 07860 432489
John Riley 07515 333902
• All lone workers must comply fully with this policy and with any complementary instructions
received from the Company. Failure to do so may constitute a disciplinary offence.
Managers and Supervisors will be expected to have used the Lone Working Checklist before
asking a member of staff to work alone. It is also a requirement of every member of staff to
use the checklist to ensure their safety and the safety of their colleagues and visitors to the
business.
In the waste business it is inevitable that at sometimes members of staff will be expected to
work on their own. This policy and Check list has been designed with Your safety in mind.
