• If any maintenance or repair work is needed to the site itself, you must bring it to the
attention of the site manager/foreman who will contact head office to arrange for a
contractor to visit the site and initiate a repair.
• If there is a mechanical breakdown, you must notify the site manager/foreman who
will contact an external contractor who will initiate the repair. If a replacement
machine is required, the company has use of various machines at other depots or
can hire the required machine to cover any shortfalls.
• During operating hours, it is recommended that the lights on the inside of the waste
reception building be kept on. This will increase the visibility for all inside the building.
• At the end of each working day, all vehicles must be locked, site offices and toilets
locked, fuel pumps locked, and finally the gates must be locked when you leave.
• It is the responsibility of all site personnel to ensure that the site office, site toilets,
and machinery cabs are kept clean and free of dust. Should your cleaning supplies
become low, you must notify the site manager/foreman who will arrange with head
office to replenish your cleaning equipment stock.
• All staff must wash their hands before they eat, drink, have a cigarette or go to the
toilet. This is very important as it reduces the risk of infection or diseases from the
different types of waste that is handled on site. One type of disease is Leptospirosis
(also known as Weil’s disease), which is transmitted in rat’s urine which may be on
the waste. Ask your manager for further information relating to personal hygiene. (see
section 6 and 7.1for more details)
• The use of personal headphones for listening to music or for mobile phone use is
strictly prohibited whilst working on site. You must only wear ear protection that is
supplied to you as part of your PPE, such as ear plugs or ear defenders, and never
use your ear protection to hold a mobile phone to your ear while working. This is for
your personal safety to ensure you can hear vehicles or other people at all times
