sprinkler system has been installed in the building and yards to combat the dust problem.
The sprinkler system must be used at all times where dust may arise from our operations.
MUD – Mud is a problem that requires constant surveillance. During wet seasons, mud
is an increased problem. Mud is caused by wet inert waste sticking to
vehicle wheels and travelling out of the building and being deposited onto
the yard and sometimes the highway. Mud is not allowed to be deposited
onto the highway, so if you notice this, it must be cleaned immediately.
The first point of mud prevention is to keep the waste reception area floor
clean by scraping the machine bucket over the floor to move any mud onto
the inert waste pile. Secondly the mud needs to be washed or swept away from the
building doorway into the site interceptors (which incorporate grit traps which are to be
emptied as often as possible). This practice prevents mud travelling across the yard
towards the highway. Thirdly, the road sweeper needs to be used across the yard and
building entrance to collect and sweep any stray mud. As with the dust, the highways
need to be swept once per week to ensure that the roads are kept clear of mud. If the
roads become excessively dirty, extra sweeping of the road will be required.
ODOUR – The accumulation of waste or some waste types can create
an unpleasant odour. This can be easily managed by ensuring that the
waste is processed and turned around on site quickly. Should there be
any perceived odour problems then please advise the Site Foreman
who will discuss with the directors the best course of action to take.
PESTS – Pests are attracted by any accumulation of waste, so obviously the nature of
our operation will encourage pests to visit the site. The control of vermin is contracted
out to a third-party company who will visit site every month to inspect the pest control
measures they have put in place. A report of their finding will be left on site. Site
personnel should still check the whole site for signs of vermin. If you do find any signs of
vermin, you must notify your site manager who will contact the contracted company to
come and deal with the pests before they become a problem.
