                • Ensure that the load is central on the forks and the forks are fully inserted under it. When
picking up the load take care that the fork ends, if they project beyond it, do not foul any other
                    object.
                • Where loads project beyond the normal width of the truck, particular care must be taken when
reversing, to ensure the load has clearance when passing through doorways etc.

                • Apply the parking brake before fitting any additions to the mast or forks and use extreme
                    care.
                • Stop the truck before raising or lowering the forks.
                FORKLIFT MAINTENANCE

                • In order to ensure that the fork truck is able to work safely and efficiently it must be regularly
maintained and repaired. All technical maintenance and repairs will be carried out by properly
trained servicing staff but certain basic maintenance and inspection routines should be
carried out at the start of each working day or shift by the operator. Each truck should have
its own record for maintenance and repairs.

Before commencing operation for the day check:-

                a) Any major faults must be reported to the Managing Director or Foreman and the FLT taken
out of service until the fault has been rectified.
                b) That the brakes operate properly when the truck is operated in either direction.
                c) That tyres are in a satisfactory condition, free of swarf, and if pneumatic inflated to the right
pressure, which should be marked on the truck body just above the wheel.
                d) That the horn and any other audible warning work.

                g) That the oil, water and hydraulic fluid levels are correct. Report if not, as this may indicate
                h) a fluid loss.
                i) That all controls, indicators, and instruments are working correctly
                j) That the fuel level is sufficient for the task in hand.

                • At the end of operation for the day, the batteries on an electrically powered truck should be
re-charged using the proper charging plant.
                •
                • Each charging area must have an eye wash station close by with easy access.
