Where Do I Find a Graphic Designer?

Unexpectedly, I found a graphic artist because I fell in love with
the package design of a product located close to my booth at a
trade show. In mentioning this to the owner of the small company,
I ended up meeting her graphic artist on the last day of the show.
She worked out of New York, but the distance wasn't an issue. If you
see something you like , don't hesitate to try to find out who created
it. Here are some other tips:

• Ifyou live near a college or university that offers a graphic design
program and you have a relatively simple job, ask a professor to
recommend a student in his last year of the program. He will
likely be eager for the job and also relatively inexpensive.

• Ask friends who work at larger companies that have a design
or creative department for referrals. Sometimes the company
designer is willing to do freelance work on the side to earn extra
   income.

• Ask for referrals locally from friends, family, colleagues, or local

   businesses.

If none of the above options work, you can search online or in
your local phone book for resources. Be sure you review the per
son's portfolio online or in person to get a sense of her experience
level and quality of work.

How an Arrangement with a Graphic Designer Will Work

Your agreement with the deSigner could take many different
forms depending on how extensive your needs are, the person's
business arrangement (is he on his own or does he work for a firm?),
and how involved you want to be. Here are some things you can
expect:

 • If you work with a freelance artist, she may work from home and
    control her own workload.
