Build a
Fake Booth
To imagine your booth, section off part of your garage, basement,
or backyard with masking tape or string so you know exactly how
big it is. When you've marked off the appropriate space, decide
what you want to have on hand (fliers, price lists, mailing list
sign-up sheet, order forms , pens , samples, chairs, tables, display
cases, freebies , and so on). Then arrange everything in your fake
"booth" and see if it will all fit. (Remember, rules are strict and
you cannot count on another inch beyond what the show told
you for a booth size.) If necessary, rearrange and reassess. This
exercise also allows you to:
• Remember the little things you'll need, like a screwdriver to
assemble a shelf or some specific hooks to hang a sign.
• Step back and see how your booth looks from afar (but not too
far "afar"-the aisle will probably be no more than 15' wide) .
• Walk by quickly and make sure that it's obvious what
you're selling.
• Know how long it will take you to set up your booth.
