Craig: That’s absolutely a proven technique. So even if
it feels tedious, just know that it’s a lot faster than doing
all the years of self-discovery that Bruce Barton had to
do to get it.

Joe: This is a shortcut. Well, he goes on then, and
I love this because he says, “I have agreed to take ten
boys and pay the deficit on their education each year,
$1,000. I have agreed to do this if I can get 24 other men
who will each take ten.” There’s a couple of things going
on in here that I love. First of all, from a hypnotic stand-
point, we have the phrase “I have agreed” twice. There’s
a little bit of a rhythm there, and you may find it hard
to believe, but that’s going into your brain and you’re
starting to agree. And you’re hearing it twice.

   In hypnosis, we usually repeat things very often. If
you see a stage hypnosis, they don’t say “You are get-
ting sleepy” one time. They say, “You are getting sleepy,
you are getting sleepy, you are getting sleepy.” They are
repeating the command so it goes into the brain. Here
we have Bruce Barton saying, “I have agreed to take ten
boys. . . . I have agreed to do this if I can get 24 other
men who will each take ten.”

   The other thing that is going on, just in these two sen-
tences, is that he seems to say, “Look, if I can do this,
you can do this.” He’s not quite saying that, but he is
saying, “I’m taking ten boys.” So in the back of your
mind, you are starting to think, “Is he going to ask me
to take ten boys? Because I don’t know if I can take ten
boys. I don’t know if he’s going to say that. Surely he
isn’t going to ask us to take ten, so when he does get to
what he’s going to ask us to do, it’s going to seem like a
very small request compared to what we are imagining
