hypnotic. And then his next line is, “Honestly, can you
think of any other investment that would keep your life
working in the world so long a time after you are gone?”
And at this point, I can’t. Maybe I could have before
I read this letter, but by the time I’ve gotten to this, it’s
like no. You know what, Bruce, I can’t think of anything
else that’s going to be better than this. And this sounds
like—a thousand bucks? Is that all you want?
Craig: Well, and he’s even put that right on the table. “If
you will do this I’ll promise you the best time you have
ever bought for a thousand dollars.” He knows these
people have the money. The question now is whether
they are going to give it to Dr. William J. Hutchins, who,
by the way, went to Yale.
Joe: That happens to have been mentioned in parenthe-
ses in the letter, by no accident.
Craig: So again, he is identifying that this money isn’t
going to go to some faceless charity or even some
college. It’s going to a specific person who will be
shepherding their money, and Bruce Barton is going to
be the ringleader here, and he’s going to take the lead of
the 25 people involved, right? He’s going to do the dirty
work. He’s going to report and do all that stuff that real-
istically they probably don’t want to do. But he’s going
to tell them how this story turns out, how their charges
all succeeded.
He’s going to keep the game going essentially, and
it’s a very honorable, deserving game. So, everyone
involved—Henry Clay, Daniel Boone, your kids, and
the Berea students—is of same stuff. We’re all of the
same stuff here. We’re all heroes, and you just happen to
