TECHNOLOGY/COMPUTERS: Number of Sorors: 8 Number of Participants: 10
Description of the Activity: The Technology Committee assisted sorors with website
registration and they redesigned the chapter website. They also provided sorors with
technology lessons on Goggle Apps. Also, they designed and reproduced the tickets for the
program booklets for the Annual Scholarship Citation Luncheon. The technology committee did
a wonderful job on the new chapter directory.
CHILDREN, ADULT & EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, TOUCH -A-CHILD:

Description of the Activity: The Children and Adult Benefits committee decided to continue to
partner with the committees within the chapter to enhance serving children and adults. Three
projects were planned and executed. The first project was Red Book Bags that were donated to
Julia A. Barnes school in Jersey City and one school in Newark NJ. The book bags contained
school supplies for the children. The second project was a collection of Christmas toys that was
delivered to one school in Jersey City and one school in Newark, NJ. The third project was a
collection of water bottles caps which was collected and mailed to Africa.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP TRAINING:
TEACH-A-RAMA: Number of Sorors: 20 Xinos: 20 Kudos: 12 Others: 30
Description of the Activity: Alpha Chapter hosted its annual Teach A Rama on October 5th at
the Hudson County School of Technology. There were over 80 people in attendance for the
event that focus on Healthy Minds and Healthy Bodies. Participants were able to participate in
Zumba, Yoga, Nutrition, Meditation, Physical Fitness, and a session on how to keep their Brain
Fit. There was also a Pharmacist on site who administered 13 flu shots. Hudson Sport and Spin
gave out 15 min massages and a voter registration drive was done. Our youth also engaged in
fitness of the mind and body as they learned to meditate, discussed the importance of physical
fitness and participated in physical activities. The time with youth was also used to educate
them and their parents on financial planning for college.
COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS, EDUCATION AND LEGISLATIVE
AFFAIRS (ACADEMIC ISSUES AND CURRENT TRENDS) Number of Sorors: 24
Others: Description of the Activity: During the meeting, the Academic Issues committee
reported on two issues facing New Jersey Schools.
1. Senate Bill 2 (S2) which is New Jersey's latest funding bill. Under this bill, some
school districts will see increases in their state aid while other school districts will loose funding
for the next school year.
2. On January 10,2020 a judge rule that the major lawsuit against the state of New Jersey
over racial and socioeconomic segregation in the public school system can move forward. This
complaint was first filed in 2018 and alleges that New Jersey has de facto segregation of its
public school system and this violated New Jersey constitution by racially segregating students
and depriving them of a 'thorough and efficient' education.
