             Good Morning,
As we continue on this journey To Foster a Spirit of Sisterhood Among Teachers and to Promote
the Highest Ideals of the Teaching Profession, we need to remember the importance of knowing our
history in the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. It is also important that we take the time to
get to know one another. We all have positive traits that we can share and we all have areas to grow.
As we continue to grow together, I want you to keep something in mind. Please take a moment,
close your eyes and visualize a diamond. (as Soror Estelle reminded us Friday night, we are in the
             Diamond State)

We, the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. are a DIAMOND in the ROUGH. Our goal is to
become polished and shine bright like a high-quality diamond. Anyone who knows the process of
how a diamond gets to be bright, clear and elegant, knows that the process is not an easy one. The
natural diamond process goes like this:
First- Carbon must be present deep in the Earth’s crust.

Then- the Heat reaches about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Next- An intense pressure of approximately 725,000 pounds per inch is applied to the carbon.

Finally- The diamonds rise to the Earth’s surface to cool.
We are in this same process.

We show up to events and conferences locally and regionally.

During these events and conferences, it may feel extremely hot with a lot of applied pressure. There
may be times when you may not agree with the decisions that are being made and that you can'to
fully understand the vision. (we are at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit).

You may feel the pressure from the various changes that will be taking place. Some of the changes
will feel good and others not so good and uncomfortable because it is different and not what we are
used to. But in the end...
We will all rise just like the diamond to the Earth’s surface to cool. This is when the process
continues of being cut, polished and shined. Sorors, if we want to shine like a diamond, we have to
get cut and pressed like a diamond. The version we are today is good, but we can still climb the
ladder to great, phenomenal and exceptional!!! As educators, we must GET BETTER FASTER! If
we make some adjustments there is nothing we can’t achieve for our youth and the communities we
serve. We are all striving to be the high-quality diamond, however, right now WE are ALL
DIAMONDS in the ROUGH (with the exception of our Diamond members)!!!!

Let’s talk about how the current person that you are can help shift you to the next level. Allow
yourself to be vulnerable enough in the process of growth. You may feel the heat, the pressure, and
the cuts just like a diamond in its process. Think of the process like this:
