REGIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON REPORT
Sororal Year 2019
Y. E. S. Program Committee: Kappa Omicron Tau (KOT) Regional Chair: Soror Valeria Edwards
Briefly describe and highlight exemplary programs reported by chapters of the region.
Summarize exemplary reports only and list the contributing chapters at the end of the report.
This is my first year serving as the Eastern Region KOT Chair. I am grateful to those who preceded
me for their leadership. Out of twenty-eight (28) chapters, we have eleven (11) with KOT advisors. I
am excited to report that I received seven (7) Chapter Activity Reports: Alpha, Xi, Pi, Rho, Beta
Lambda, Delta nu, and Delta Pi.
Recruitment for new KOT groups and members is critical and key to the continued growth of
this organization. Some of the exemplary programs include:
* Alpha Chapter: Has interviewed several freshmen in hopes of having a line in the Spring
2020
* Xi Chapter: has five KOT's and they meet at a church and on the campus of Cheyney
University. They hosted a candy sale, supported by sorors and anthropos, to earn money to
attend the Regional Conference in the Spring.
* Pi Chapter: has the support of young women from local colleges and universities supporting
events, like the Goldenred Scholarship Luncheon, however no members yet.
* Rho Chapter: is working to reestablish their KOT program and will hold an interest meeting
in the Fall.
* Beta Lambda Chapter: participated in the Education Day Fair at Winston- Salem State
University. Contact information was gathered, in hopes of scheduling an interest meeting in
2020.
* Delta Nu Chapter: is developing a relationship with colleges and universities in Bergan and
Passaic Counties, as well as student teachers.
* Delta Pi Chapter: has eight (8) KOTs. They participated in an African American History
Program by serving meals. They also assist the Xinos and Kudos in preparing for performances
prior to the Youth Conference. They also shared with the Youth Group, inviting the seniors to
attend college, major in education, and join the KOT.
Recommendations: My goal is to see an increase in the number of Chapters with a KOT
Advisors. I am seeking KOT Advisors to make-up a committee of five (5). After which, I look
forward to working with these Chapters to grow the KOT Division, of the National Sorority of
Phi Delta Kappa, Inc,, and enhance the teaching profession.
Respectfully,
Valeria Edwards
