USE OF LADDERS

SUMMARY OF CONTROL MEASURES:-

• Select work equipment suitable to the

task, risk assessment based upon the
hierarchy of controls and the “general

principles of prevention”;

• Ladders and step ladders must only be

used for low risk short-duration work;

• Ladders must be inspected by a competent

person BEFORE use;

• Ladders must be placed at a safe angle of

75⁰;

• Secure ladders both stiles and use ladders

stabilisers;

• As a minimum step ladders must be

footed;

● Maintain 3 points of contact;

● Work within the ladder stiles, do not
overreach;

● Do not place ladder against a soft surface
such as plastic guttering;

● Ladder to be inspected before use, stiles,

rungs, anti-slip feet etc. in good order, free
from defects;

● Statutory inspection to be completed in
