LIFTING OPERATIONS
SUMMARY OF CONTROL MEASURES:-
● Crane operators, forklift operators and
slinger/signallers must be trained and
competent;
● All lifting equipment and accessories must be
inspected before use and have a current
Through Examination Test certificate;
● All lifting appliances, lifting equipment and
accessories must have the Safe Working Load
(SWL) and unique identification no.

● Check for defects, never exceed the Safe
Working Load;
● Ensure safety catches are provided on lifting
hooks;
● Don’t use kinked chains;
● Certified Lift Coordinator to prepare a Lift
Plan for each lift;
● Use tag lines to stabilise loads lifted by
cranes;
● Use safety nets when lifting palleted
materials
● Agree an effective means of communications
between crane or forklift operator and
slinger/signaller.
● Check Automatic Safe Load Indicator is
working correctly before lifting;
