Mortar / cement mixers
• All mixers are supplied with fixed guards. These guards are physical
barriers which prevent access to the danger zone or moving parts
and should never be removed or modified.
• Some mixers will have mechanical or electrical interlocks, which
again this will prevent body parts from coming into contact with
moving parts.
• For cleaning or performing maintenance on a mixer, the machine
must be de-energized by means of unplugging or locked out and
tagged out. Review the operators manual for assistance on this and
ensure the correct tools are used.
2. Equipment • machine is safe and fit for use and that all safety features are working
•
Pre-use checks on machines must be carried out to determine the
i.e. EMO button etc.
Ensure the correct PPE is worn. Again, refer to the manufacturers
recommendation to determine the correct level of PPE to be worn
whilst using the machine.
•
Ensure that loose clothing, jewelry etc. is not worn while operating
these machines.
• All operators must be trained to use the machine. This training should
take into account general use and also cleaning if that is part of the
task.
• The machine must be placed and set up on a sound/even surface
prior to operation and make sure the drum is never overloaded.
• Supervision must always check that the machine is the right one for
the task. There may be smaller or bigger machines available
depending on the needs.
