Page 13 - How Sophie Grumble Guts Got Her Name

When they arrived at the animal shelter, Sophie who had fallen

asleep in the back seat of the car still wrapped in Bill’s jacket
was awoken suddenly by the sounds of many dogs barking and

cats meowing in a piteous and distressed state.

Bill scooped Sophie up and they headed inside where they were

met with scenes of chaos. There were people and dogs and cats

everywhere. Obviously, lots of animals had been separated from
their families by the floods.

Sophie began to tremble and shake in trepidation. “Please don’t

leave me here”, she begged Bill. “I have to, love - I can’t take
you home with me”.
