Page 14 - How Sophie Grumble Guts Got Her Name

After Bill had waited in the line and completed some forms, a

lady took Sophie, and she was taken through some double doors
to where rows of kennels stood. She was placed in one of the

kennels that consisted of a cold concrete floor, a bed in the

corner and a bowl of water.

The bed did have a blanket and Sophie was given a bowl of biscuits

to eat. Not what she was used to – but she was so hungry that she

immediately ate everything in the bowl and had a big drink of water
to wash it down. It was only then that she noticed how all the dogs

were howling and barking and she could hear cats meowing and
howling as well.

Goodness, what is this
place, she thought to

herself. I don’t like it

here one little bit. She
huddled into the blanket

on the bed and tried to
bury her head to muffle

the sounds coming from

everywhere.
Everyone sounds as unhappy as
I feel, she thought to herself.
