Page 15 - How Sophie Grumble Guts Got Her Name
P. 15
Her ordeal had exhausted her and she managed to sleep for the
whole day and night and woke up the next morning with a little
bit of hope in her heart. Maybe, Ethel will come and get me
today, she thought.
What she didn’t realise was that she had been swept a very long
way from home in the raging river. It was very unlikely that
Ethel would look for her this far away and as she had no
identification, there was no way anyone could match her with
Ethel and let Ethel know where she was.
As the days passed and Ethel didn’t come to collect her, Sophie
became increasingly sad. She huddled in the corner and stopped
eating. She didn’t respond to any of the staff who came to clean
her kennel and bring her food. The staff became very worried
about her and contacted one of the local rescue groups to see
whether they could take Sophie and endeavour to find her a new
home – because it didn’t look like her owner was coming for her.
