M. Literature Review: Past Research Works
Prior to this research, there were several previous
researchers who had conducted research on Minang customs, both
in general and directed to a special part of one aspect of education.
Among the previous researchers are as follows:
1. Mansoer MD., et al., Researching Minangkabau

2. Nasroen, researching on the Basis of Minang
Indigenous Philosophy, 1971.
3. Mochtar Naim, researching Merantau, 1979.
4. AA Navis, researching the Takambang Nature as a
Teacher; study of Minang Indigenous and Minang
Culture, 1984.
5. Emizal Amri, researching the Padri Movement; a study
on Social Change in the Minangkabau Natural Central
Area, 1985.
6. Azyumardi Azra, researching the role of Surau in
Minangkabau, 1988; researching about the surau as an
educational institution.
7. Adrianus Khatib, researching the Early Phases of
Islamic Development in Minangkabau (before the Padri
movement), 1989.
