That is, the resilience of a nation actually lies in the character or
morals of that nation. Budi does not only apply to behavior, but also to language, the
language of a virtuous person is called culture and subtle language is called stale. How
custom attaches importance to pleasantries or subtle manners so that it will keep one
member of the community from conflict with another.
Pucuak pauah sadang tajelo,
panjuluak Bungo ligundi.
Want to stay away from disputes,
Pahaluih Baso Jo Stale. 84
That is, a kindness to other people is a good character, while baso
(language) is a speech that contains beauty in life.
A person who has no mind will not have glory in his life, as stated
in the following proverb:
Budi Jan Tajua,
understand jan tagadai,
nan kayo iyolah kayo in Budi,
nan mulie iyolah mulie in baso. 85
The essence of wealth is kindness given to someone, while the
essence of glory is courtesy and courtesy, therefore kindness must be reciprocated, debts
of gratitude can only be paid with kindness. If you are indebted, then understanding or
