P. 77
Adityawarman wanted to let go of Majapahit's influence
on Minangkabau so he moved the center of his kingdom to the
interior of Pagaruyung, and his kingdom was named the
Pagaruyung kingdom. Adityawarman, who is Hindu, cannot do
whatever he wants in Pagaruyung because the Minang country
does not have a Hindu cultural background as a conquered
regional power, on the contrary Adityawarman's power as king
is limited to overseas and colonial areas, not to Luhak nan tigo
(as the country of origin of the Minang people). In the
customary tradition it is stated:
Luhak nan bapanghulu,

the nan barajo region.
What is meant by Luhak nan tigo is the three
countries of Minangkabau origin, namely Luhak flat land, Luhak
Agam and Luhak fifty cities. As for Luhak, at that time a group of
houses were inhabited by several community groups, but now
Luhak has become a district.
G. Islam in Minangkabau
After Adityawarman died not much else is known in
Minangkabau, but it is recorded that the first Islamic king who
ruled in Minangkabau was Sultan Alif in 1560. However, Islam
44 Idrus Hakimy, Mustika Series, p. 139, which means: Luhak is ruled
by the ruler, the rantau is ruled by the king.
