Price quotation
Yoon: Actually, how many units do you want to order?
Adams: First of all, I need approximately 3,500 units of the Super Color TV model, HK 10201.
Yoon: Okay. Well, according to our price negotiation, one unit will come to US $285 FOB, Busan,
and we think that we have reduced our prices to the lowest possible point.
Adams: You must remember that your competitors are offering lower prices than you are.
Therefore, you must discount 10% off the total price in order to secure our repeat business.
What do you say to that?
Yoon: In view of our long business relationship with you, we are prepared to offer a discount of
6%. Is that satisfactory? This is really the lowest we can get. I hope you understand.
Adams: Hmmmm. That sounds fine. We accept your offer. Thanks for considering our request!
1. Do you consider yourself skilled in haggling or compromising? Why or why
not?
Sample answer:
Yes, I think I am skilled in compromising. I am a persuasive speaker and I always pres-
ent valid and compelling reasons to forward my goals.
2. What tips can you give to those who have no experience at all in haggling or
compromising?
Sample answer:
Businessmen have to learn the art of persuasion and logic. These two skills will make them
succeed in business.
3. How do your price quotations fare with those in the market?
Sample answer:
I believe that we have reasonable prices. We want to keep our prices competitive be-
cause I know that we won’t survive in the business if we only work on quality and lose
competitive pricing. We are seeking ways to reduce our prices in the best way we can
without losing hold on our product quality.
