Unit 9
It’s nice to meet you. You may call me Alice.
JC: Good morning Robert! I’d like to introduce a new member of our company. This is Alice
Xien.
Robert: It’s nice to meet you Ms. Xien.
JC: Alice, this is Robert Miller. He’s been with the company for about three years, right Robert?
Robert: Well, almost. I’ve been working as a Systems Analyst here these past two and a half
years.
Alice: It’s nice to meet you Mr. Miller. You may call me Alice.
Robert: Well then, you must call me Robert.
JC: Alice will be working in the Marketing Department.
Robert: Is that so? I’m sure you will be in good hands. I have two close friends in there.
Alice: Oh, that’s really good to hear!
JC: The head of that department, Mina Cooper, is a very good boss.
Robert: I heard that she is good at delegating jobs and is considerate.
Alice: She was one of those who interviewed me. She appeared quite strict.
Robert: That’s probably just because she was being professional.
Alice: I guess so. She did warm up a little during the rest of the interview.
Robert: So, why did you decide to work here?
Alice: One of my former colleagues transferred here and I heard that the Benefits are better
here.
Robert: Oh, I see.
Alice: And so, when I heard of an opening, I decided to apply. Good thing I got accepted!
JC: Robert, I’m sorry but we have to go now. We still have to get Alice acquainTed with the rest.
Robert: Alright. I’ll see you around Alice. If there’s anything I can help you with just ask.
Alice: Thanks Robert! I’ll see you around.
1. Do you often have first meetings in your line of work?
Sample answer:
Of course, it is necessary for me to meet new people all the time. I could come across
potential clients, partners or suppliers to name a few. Effective networking is a vital
component of running a business.
