It’s been a while.

Tess: It’s been quite a while since we had lunch like this. It’s just been hard finding common
time with both of us being busy on our respective projects.
Anna: Yes. I’m glad we finally got a chance to talk.
Tess: So, how’s Tom doing? He transferred to a new company, right?
Anna: Yes. It’s really working out great! There’ve been no problems so far.
Tess: That’s good to hear.
Anna: He also says that he feels more satisfied with his current job so I’m really happy.
Tess: That’s good. You’re both lucky such an opportunity came along.
Anna: Yes. We’re very thankful! How about you? How’s Ken?
Tess: Well, we’re still together and still taking our time.
Anna: If I remember correctly, you’ve been together for two years right? Are there no wedding
bells in the near future?
Tess: Well, not yet. Actually, we are trying to save up for when we decide to settle down. It could
be in a year or two. So, don’t you and Tom have any plans to have kids yet?
Anna: We decided to wait until he is settled in his new job.
Tess: It’s really hard to provide for children financially and emotionally. Perhaps, Ken and I will
wait too before having kids.
Anna: Well, I expect it will be soon for us. It could quite possibly be this year.
Tess: I’m sure you and Tom would make good parents.
Anna: Oh, thanks for saying that! It really means a lot! I’ve been excited but also a little nervous.
Tess: I’m sure it will be just fine. Well, I have to get back now. I have a meeting right after lunch.
Anna: I didn’t notice the time. I too have some calls to return.
Tess: Well then, let’s do this again sometime. Please send my regards to Tom!
Anna: I definitely will. Please send my regards to Ken as well.

1. Do you think it is appropriate to share stories of your family and relation-
ships to your officemates?

Sample answer:
I think it depends on how well you’ve known each other, since it’s also probable that
you would have close friends among your officemates. The depth of my relationship
with them would determine just how much I would be willing to share with them.
