1. You need to visit your ailing father in Korea. Your boss is currently on vacation so you are in-charge of the
operations. You are discussing with the general manager about the following:

a. your father had a stroke two weeks ago
b. you would like to take a one week leave so that you could visit your father in Korea
Sample answer:
I know Mrs. Robinson won’t be back until the end of this month. But, I need to visit my father in Korea so I’d like to take a one week leave
starting next Monday. He had a stroke two weeks ago. My mother told me that he’s in a bad condition so I’d like to be on his side even for a
short time. I hope you understand.

2. One of your staff is asking permission if he could take a one week leave next week. It would be impossible for
him to take a leave because the company will be spearheading a conference next week. You are explaining to
your staff that he could only take a leave after the conference.

a. Dates: June 2 to 6, 2008

Sample answer:
I’m really sorry but I cannot allow you to take a leave next week. I know that you have the right to take a leave but I hope you understand that
we need you here next week. The conference will begin on Tuesday so everybody should be present for that important event. Could you just
take a leave the week after next week? That’s from June 2 to 6.
