Spelling tricks
1. Ask someone or a group: Spell the word ‘silk’. (They should
spell out the letters: S, I, L, K.)
Then ask them: What do cows drink?
2. Ask someone or a group: Spell the word ‘coast’ (They should
spell out the letters: C, O, A, S, T.)
Then ask them: What do you put into a toaster?
Answer first before turning to page 44 for the answer.
1. You have a meeting with your client at 9:00 A.M. You were caught in heavy traffic for an hour so you were not
able to make it on time. You are talking to his secretary and arranging another meeting with him:
a. Time: 2:30 P.M. on the same day
Sample answer:
I have a meeting with Mr. Turvey at 9:00 A.M but I got caught in heavy traffic so I didn’t make it on time. Unfortunately, I left my mobile phone
at home that’s why I was not able to notify him. Will it still be possible for me to have a meeting with him this afternoon? Let’s say at about
2:30 P.M.
2. Your friend has set you up on a date with his former classmate. You are talking to your date regarding the
place and time of your rendezvous. The original date has a conflict with your schedule so you are asking him
if you could meet on another day:
a. Date and time: September 26, 2008 (Friday) at 7:30 P.M.
Sample answer:
I’m really sorry but I cannot meet you tonight. Something came up and I can’t leave the office early. I hope you understand. Maybe we can meet
on another day if it’s okay with you. Are you free next Friday, September 26 at 7:30 P.M.?.
